Frequently Asked Questions

Which regime is better for me — old or new?
It depends on your deductions. If your total deductions (80C + 80D + HRA + home loan etc.) are relatively low, the default New Regime is heavily incentivized with a completely zero tax threshold up to ₹12 Lakh of taxable income.
Is the 87A rebate available in the new regime for FY 2025-26?
Yes. Under the Finance Act 2026, if your taxable income (after the standard deduction of ₹75,000) does not exceed ₹12,00,000, you are entitled to a full rebate under Section 87A up to ₹60,000, reducing your net income tax liability to zero.
What is the standard deduction for salaried individuals under the Finance Act 2026?
Under the New Tax Regime, the standard deduction is maintained at ₹75,000 for salaried employees and pensioners. Under the old traditional regime, it stays fixed at ₹50,000.
When is the last date to file ITR for Tax Year 2026-27 (FY 2025-26)?
The due date for non-audit individual filers is generally July 31, 2026. Corporate and audited entities have an engineering filing deadline of October 31, 2026.
Can I switch between old and new regime every year?
Salaried individuals who do not possess any business or professional income can flexibly switch between the old and default new regime during every filing season. For taxpayers with corporate/business income, opting out of the default New Regime restricts subsequent easy transitions back.
